Education in Haiti
90% of the schools in Haiti are private and are run by non-government, religious or for profit business owners. Parents are responsible for tuition, books and mandatory uniforms. Enrollment rate is increasing but several hundreds of thousands of children remain out of school. Some children only go to school during the months and years their parents can afford it. As such, it is not rare to see a 16 year in a class full of 11 and 12 year olds.
